Numb, tingling and burning
feet are often the result of different nerve
conditions. Here at Louetta Foot and Ankle
Specialists, we have leading-edge
capabilities to diagnose the source of your
discomfort and treat your problem.
Among the most common nerve conditions
are:
Morton’s Neuroma
Numbness, tingling, burning,
stinging or pain that occurs
between the second, third and
fourth toes and in the ball of
the foot may be caused by an
entrapped swollen nerve called a
neuroma.
Injection therapy can often
reduce the inflammation around
the nerve.
If abnormal foot biomechanics
contribute to the problem,
custom-molded orthotics may be
used to take pressure off the
nerve. In some cases, it may be
necessary to surgically treat
the inflamed nerve branch to
provide relief. |
| Tarsal
Tunnel Syndrome
Foot and ankle pain that occurs
with numbness and tingling that
begins in the foot and spreads
into the toes may be caused by a
pinched nerve in the ankle.
We may prescribe
anti-inflammatory medication or
administer a cortisone injection
to provide relief. If the cause
is abnormal motion of the foot,
we may provide custom-molded
orthotics. If all conservative
treatments fail, we may
recommend surgery to release the
compressed nerve branches. |

Diabetic neuropathy
Diabetic neuropathy is a nerve
disorder caused by high blood
sugar levels. High blood sugar
causes swelling and compression
of the nerves, resulting in
numbness, tingling and burning
pain in the feet.
Here at Louetta Foot and Ankle
Specialists, we are one of the
few practices to offer a
state-of-the-art, computerized
sensory test to detect nerve
damage in its earliest stages.
We may use an advanced surgical
procedure called peripheral
nerve decompression to relieve
the pain and restore sensation.
The results have been
encouraging in preventing
ulcerations and improving the
quality of life for our diabetic
patients. |
